Basil, Zanzibar Frills

(55-70 days) Ocimum basilicum 

We made selections from original Landrace seed that we obtained from seedsman, Frank Morton who had gotten it from herbalist and seedsman, Richo Cech who found this basil growing on Pemba Island in the Zanzibar Archipelago, off the coast of Tanzania, in 1990. We also pooled this with off types from the "Round Midnight Basil" that exhibited a lovely dark purple over green splashing on the leaves. It is unique in its wavy toothing along the leaf margins and olive green with purple highlights on the leaves and stems.  Flowers are purple.  Very beautiful and distinctly aromatic.  Expect plenty of variation as this is a stabilizing gene pool.  SSF.
