Dutch Red Shallots have beautiful coppery-red bulb wrappers, purple-pink flesh and a delicate flavor loved by chefs and home cooks the world over. They are easy to grow and produce well in many climates.

Mature bulbs can be 1-4 inches in diameter and can last for over a year with proper storage. Plant in Fall or early Spring for a bountiful mid-summer harvest. Can withstands hard freezes and yield ~30 cloves per pound. One pound of shallot seed will plant about 15' at 6" spacing.

We have learned that the trick to easily peeling these beauties is to slice lengthwise and simply slip them out of their wrappers!
