A Perennial grass native to SE Asia that is widely grown as a grain crop that is also known as Chinese pearl barley. Seeds are very pretty and often used for making necklaces and rosaries as they are generally hollow. Plants grow to 2-3’ tall and loosely resemble corn. The shiny gray 1/3” seed is formed on a loose panicle and somewhat resembles the coloration of a dove. Frost tender, so either grow as an annual or in a greenhouse. Soak seed in water overnight to promote germination. SSF
