Millet, Foxtail  Setaria italica (100 days)   

Productive, warm-season grass that yields heavy seed heads with up to an ounce of grain each.  Millet’s small shiny seeds are the only alkalizing grain commonly eaten.  A nice alternative to rice and can be used sparingly as a wheat substitute in baking.  Must be hulled before eating.  Ornamental appeal is nice in dried flower arrangements given its pendulous seed heads that mature from green to golden.  SSF.
