Hordeum vulgare (140 days from early spring sowing, or 270 days from a fall sowing)

The most productive barley for our climate in a trial of 10 varieties. A 6-row barley that is different from the 2-row types used for beer malt. Long awns make for a decorative display when in seed. Very easy to grow and thresh by dancing on the dried seed heads, or thresh traditionally with a flail on a solid floor, winnow and then ‘presto’ there you go; genuine food security.
